Death of the Critic

The State of Our Union

The clock just struck midnight and I sit here looking back on the year that we just had. It has been an incredible and life changing journey for me and I’m thankful to everyone who has come along for the ride. What started back in February as a simple way for me to consolidate my writings in one place has become something entirely different. In August, I made a commitment to start taking things more seriously, and starting this December, I finally sat down and created a definite schedule where I would put a new piece out every weekday.

Not only that, but I have also been joined by CJ Streetman, who has been volunteering their time and energy to act as an editor and contributing writer. And we have more people that are joining in every day to help build Death of the Critic into something amazing.

2017 is shaping up to be an amazing year, full of big changes and new opportunities. As I write this, I sit amidst a life in transition, preparing to move to strike out on a new path. Despite the tumult, this only means great things for this site, and as we ring in the new year, we wanted to give you a look at our last year, and what we hope to do in the next 12 months. In 2016 we:

Published 109 pieces (This makes 110)
Wrote over 89,000 words
Reviewed 5 films
Reviewed 12 games
Reviewed 41 albums
Had over 4700 unique visitors
Had over 5200 page views

Over the course of the next 12 months, we want to continue to improve ourselves, and as such we have laid out some goals that we’d love to meet in the coming year:

Have 50,000 unique visitors
Publish 500 pieces total
Start recording our podcast again
Start creating video content
Start producing streams
Expand our editorial staff
Work with content creators all over the world

We want to let you know our goals as we continue forward so you know how we operate and the direction that we are headed in. It is a chance to look behind the scenes as we continue building
Death of the Critic into something great.

I want to take the time to thank each and everyone of you who has taken the time to visit this site over the past ten months, and helped me turn a passion project into a website. I also want to say thank you to CJ Streetman, who has stood besides me in this project through thick and thin, and has given their time and effort into helping me create Death of the Critic. I couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you CJ.

I hope to see all of you next year.
